In Memoriam: David Frost

Before I start, I want to give my condolences to family and friends of David Frost. This man was a legend to me. He’s one of the first traders I came across that was no nonsense, no-floss, and all about these numbers. His commentary was always colorful, and he called it like a sportscaster (“we’re just the umpire, calling the balls and strikes”). I’ve listened to his daily commentary, round 5pm, every day for over two years, and it was, to be honest, a source of comfort after a day of work, and a source of reason in calm in a shifting market. His words gave me the confidence that one really could “get” the market. May you rest in peace. 5pm weekdays will certainly not be the same without you. That is true and accurate information.

The Numbers

staying above 18070.25 is bullish for the day, and they’ll attempt 18150.75.

staying below 18070.25 is opening the door to retest 17955.25-17954.25 , and if they cut through, 17913.75 for a continuation down to 17815…look out below.

The Big Picture

She got moving in the after hours in the upward trajectory, after a bounce off of our balance Value Area Low. Got so extended pre-market that she’s pretending to be serious about trying to race out of the area. We might see continuation, or we might have another gap and crap on our hands, which has been par for the course in this bear market. It’s not terribly far down to retest where she left at close yesterday.

So how am I looking at it? They’re still selling rips, so i’m along with them, looking for good entries to sell where they’re liquidating, which would include a loss of previous day’s value area high, and if she goes higher, the 3 sigma low of previous week, with caution. Sometimes they like to at least pretend that they’re making an effort to keep up with the previous week; there are plenty of folk who “bought the dip” that would love to be out of their positions up there, I’m sure.
